Independent Living for Seniors (ILS) is an affiliate of Rochester General Hospital. ILS utilizes Rochester General Hospital and specialists affiliated with the Rochester General Hospital provider network.

Our Medical Director

Dr. Olinger received her undergraduate degree and is a medical school graduate of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She subsequently fellowship trained in geriatrics through the University of Rochester Primary Care Program and is board certified in Internal Medicine. In addition to her educational experience, Dr. Olinger has a long interest in geriatrics and public policy. Through the initial program at Case Western Reserve University, she was part of a longitudinal medical student experience in aging. As a med student, Dr. Olinger was the coordinator of the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) national task force on aging for two years and took one year off from med school to become the legislative affairs director for AMSA in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Olinger has been in practice for six years, providing medical care as a geriatric hospitalist; as a nursing home physician and as a nursing home Medical Director. On a personal note, Dr. Olinger is married with two children. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, cooking and playing the piano.

Dr. Olinger feels that the PACE model "provides the optimal way to take care of elderly patients. Through PACE, our participants maintain optimal function and independence while remaining in their own homes. PACE is the way that we all want to be taken care of." When asked about her goals as ILS Medical Director, Dr. Olinger responds that she is looking to "improve efficiencies in clinical communication processes to better meet participant's needs." Dr. Olinger plans to unify clinical development across all care settings, through a constant evaluation for appropriate geriatric care.
